Can I get an opinion on Apple Display vs. others?

I am wanting to get an external display for my wife's Macbook Pro, 13 inch. Have looked at the thunderbolt Cinema Display of Apple and compared to, for example, the Acer 24" Widescreen LED Backlit LCD Monitor from Other World Computing. I am inclined towards the Apple model thinking it would work best with an Apple MB, but not sure if this is really a factor. Big price difference. The Apple unit about 1K and the OWC model about 200. Does anyone have any experience or advice in this regard? Would appreciate guidance.
