Q: Why does the two step authentication not work with all downloads of newest operating system?

I was just informed that even though I have the newest operation system updates that the two step authentication does not update at same time.  Does anyone have more information regarding this issue?

It is not yet available to me either. It is being "rolled out gradually." See the quote below from Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support

Starting this fall, two-factor authentication will be rolled out gradually to users who meet specific system requirements and other criteria designed to ensure the best possible user experience. We’ll increase availability over time until we can offer the feature to everyone. You can learn more and see if two-factor authentication is available for your Apple ID.

Until two-factor authentication becomes available to you, you can use two-step verification: Frequently asked questions about two-step verification for Apple ID - Apple Support

    Thanks FoxFifth,

I had previously read that paragraph also, but wondered if anyone knew what the specific requirements are as mentioned above, as I have all newer equipment and the most current OS X and IOS updates for all computers and devices after being with Apple for many years with same ID. I just wondered if anyone knew the specifics of anything I'm missing in order to meet the requirements and criteria mentioned.  If anyone knows I would appreciate someone sharing this information with me. Thanks again.

I don't think it is anything that you are missing regarding meeting the requirements. I think I'm in the same situation as you are -- all of my devices are on the most current OS X and iOS and the same Apple ID for many years and it isn't available to me yet either. As the quote in my post above says, it will be rolled out gradually -- apparently very gradually.

I will switch to it when it is available but I'm completely happy with the two-step verification alternative that is currently available to everyone.
