Battery indicator light is BLACK in iPhone 6S. Charge is at 100% What does that BLACK mean? I used the USB connection on a surge protector and am wondering if I have damaged something?

Thank you Michael but it was never black until I used the surge protector. Even at 100% it has never been green again. I need to be sure nothing is wrong. Hoping to avoid resetting it to fix the issue.
When not plugged in, it will be white or black depending on the background color tone of the page you have open. Light colored pages will have a black battery icon, dark ones will have a white battery icon.
