Legal Firmware Password Characters

Legal Firmware Password Characters

What characters are legal to use in the firmware password for a mac.

I read alphanumeric are accepted and that others characters may cause a problem but this seems silly.

What about characters are allowed such as & or $ or %, etc.

Can't seem to find anything authoritative on this, but I always prefer to use random passwords with a variety of character types.

Thanks in advance

I believe that was the page where I read the words alphanumeric. However that was quite some time ago and it's one of those things that's been bugging me. Alphanumeric does not include those special characters so I was wondering if anyone has had any issues using using those special characters?

seems that the word alphanumeric is not there anymore. May have been another site but I though it was a posting by Apple. Might have been on the Mac firmware utility itself.
