Transferring data from 4s to 6s went horribly wrong?

I bought a new Verizon unlocked iPhone 6s last night.

Out of sheer excitement, in the car I proceeded to turn it on and set it up as a new iPhone. I didn't enter my Apple ID.

Today I got a new sim and transferred my old number to the current carrier.

As I was trying to transfer my data from my old 4s to the new phone, I realized I should "erase iPhone" so that I arrived at the home screen where I could restore the new iPhone from a backup.

When I try to activate the new phone, it asks me for an Apple ID I have NEVER SEEN before. I've tried the one I used in my old phone, but no luck.

What the f is going on? I feel about ready to give up!
