Connecting Asus monitor to MacBook Pro

I've connected Asus monitor. It's mirroring MacBook screen perfectly but sound is now coming out of the Asus monitors tiny built-in speakers, not the big speakers that are plugged into the MacBook. Also can't control volume from the MacBook. Anyone got any ideas how I correct that? Thanks.
