Q: Safe mode and single user mode not working: Freeze at boot

I just found out that safe mode and single user mode are not working on my MacBookPro (mid 2015). No matter if I want to invoke these via shortcuts at boot time or in Terminal before restart: The Mac freezes at startup and never gets to the login screen. I have to reset PRAM each time to get over it.

Where would I find the boot log to check at what instant booting stops?

10.11.1 (15B42)

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1), mid 2015

I Had a similar problem, but I could only log in to Terminal. My Hd went bad. Luckily I had all backed up. You might just want to check your SMART status of your HD in disk utilities.

I did a disk check and First Aid and SMART status both reported everything ok.
