Can I upgrade my iMac to the latest OS? It has a 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Memory. Currently running OS 10.6.8.

Yes, but you'll want to upgrade the memory also. Older iMacs run better with at least 8gb on the newer operating systems. I believe I have the same iMac as you, a late 2009, and mine runs El Cap fine with 16gb of ram.
