iPhone 6, Hotmail message "Cannot move deleted mail to trash folder"

iPhone 6, IOS 9.1 using Hotmail account. Whenever I delete mail from my in box, I get a message which says "cannot move to Trash folder". But if I go to the

trash folder, this seems to refresh the system and the unwanted mail is moved. Can anyone shed light on this?
