Did you ever have your screen replaced by someone other than Apple or an authorized repair center? If so, your TouchiD is permanently disabled and you'll get that error when attempting to update. If no unauthorized work was ever done, make an appointment with the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store to have your phone serviced.
