time code on iMovie

I am going on a video shoot tomorrow and need a playback for the card from the camera. When I've tried this before, the video comes up in clips, which I can't timecode and use to write the stories. If I download the videocamera card onto a portable storage drive, can I play it back on iMovie in complete form, so I can time code the video?
