My contacts list on my iphone 6 went blank.

When I go to my contacts list on my iphone 6 OS 9.1, I see "No Contacts". All of my contacts are still on my ipad. The only thing I can think of that I have done is upgrade my computer to El Capitan. I tried restoring my iphone from my computer and tried syncing with it. Has anyone else had this problem and what can I do to fix it?
