Why cant i connect to a local network and my spouse can with his samsung?

i have an I phone 5, husband has a Samsung Galaxy S3. when we travel he is able to connect to the local network and on three separate occasions, I have not been able to get internet; both I phone and I pad as well. Any answers??? Help!
