time machine icon remains yellow in finder
iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)
That is the default color. If TM is working, not to worry.
If concerned, go inside your external drive & click on something.
Restart your comp.
Contact the manufacturer of your external drive & express your concerns to them.
This will usually happen after rebooting or powering on the machine. In most cases the drive icon will update to show the green Time Machine colour and logo on the drive after the first Time Machine backup. On occasion I find the drive won't update properly even when Time Machine is running. If this happens I've found that doing a Get Info on the drive will often rigger it to update the icon to the green Time Machine one.
This has been flakey for several versions of OS X now. As long as your Time Machine is running its not something to be concerned about.
