Plusses & minuses to enabling FileVault?

Setting up new iMac. I used FileVault on my laptop, but since the iMac sits at home, and I'm not worried about someone coming over and breaking into it, I'm wondering what the advantages are to enabling FileVault.

Also, are there any negatives to enabling it? Does it affect performance?

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

I have it enabled on my 2012 base model MacBook Air and if there is any effect on performance it is so small that I can't notice it. If I had an iMac I would probably enable it only due the very remote chance of theft. I can't think of any other advantages to enabling it.

FoxFifth, I have the same experience on my 2014 MBP 15" and same recommendation.
