When I paste into a new document it always prints with a gray back ground. How do I get rid of it?.

I am a new Mac user with a Mac Book Pro (OS X El Capitan very. 10.11.1)

When I paste text into Pages, it always prints with a light gray background behind the text. I have never had this problem with Windows. How do I get rid of the gay background?

It sounds like the source of the text must have some formatting (e.g. background color) that is being copied into the clipboard and then pasted.

In most applications you can paste only the text, without formatting, by using the shift-option-command-V keyboard shortcut.
