iTunes m4v files won't play from flash drive on tv or blu ray player

I copied the m4v file you get after buying a movie on iTunes to a flash drive and then tried to watch it on a HD tv as well as a blu ray player.

The file shows up but neither the HD tv or blu ray player can play the m4v movie file.

Neither seem to be recognizing the m4v file.

How do we put these movie m4v files on the tv or on personal computers like iPads etc ?
