change HDD
I am an user of Mac Mini model early 2009, I have 160GB HDD and I want to change to
1TB 7200rpm.
Please advice how can I format and install OS system and backup

What OSX version?
I would clone the existing HD to the new HD when it is an external enclosure. See:

If the Mac has Lion or great make sure you also clone the Recovery partition.
Then test the new OSX drive while it is still in its external enclosure. If OK then exchange drives.
