Safari is locked.

I cannot access preferences. i have closed and relaunched Safari. I get a pop up with the safari icon and http://apple.com---macupdate.info with the message the last website you visited has infected your Mac with a virus. Press ok to begin repair process. Earlier tonight I had a similar lock up with another popup that I was able to delete, but cannot find those same directons now.
