When I check my mail, it takes me back to an email I read 3 or 4 days earlier instead of to the last one I read. Is there a way to fix this?

When I check my mail, it takes me back to an older email I read at least 3-4 days earlier, instead of staying on the last email I read. I thought at first that it was taking me to an email that had an unconfirmed event in it but sometimes the email has no dates in it. I find this very annoying as I have to scroll back up to find my unread messages and sometimes there are a lot of emails to scroll thru! This has only been happening since I updated iOS to 9.1. Is there a fix for this?
