iPhone 5 touch screen won't work on lock screen but it will when I restart it and use the phone. When I lock it back it frozed again. What is it ?

so last night my iPhone 5 got all crazy and froze. I locked it and the touch screen on lock screen wouldn't work. After many trials it did and I managed to restart the device. When it restated it worked all good but when I locked it and tried to unlock it again it frozed . I restarted my phone once again so I could use it but every time I lock it, it frozes. The funny thing is that when its on home screen or when I'm using an app it works perfectly unless a few times (3) when it got all crazy and started opening apps and typing things. Its not that the touch screen is completely frozen but it works only when it feels like it. Is it a technical problem or can I fix it myself ? (when it started I was using Facebook and I was charging the phone, can it be some kind of virus ?) thanks !!!

Hello Xristinabtw,

It sounds like your touch screen is becoming unresponsive once you lock the screen and you need to force it to restart to make the screen work again, and the touch screen will sometimes act like you are opening things and touching it when you aren't. My initial thought is that there is something wrong with the touch screen hardware itself, but I would like to make sure all the bases are covered and start by troubleshooting the software. Start by quitting all the running apps just in case one is causing an issue. Normally you only need to quit the app that is causing or having an issue but here it would be best to close them all:

Force an app to close in iOS
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201330

1. Press the Home button two times quickly. You'll see small previews of your recently used apps.
2. Swipe left to find the app you want to close.
3. Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.

When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:

If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes, then restore it as new and verify that it works.

How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.

If nothing works, and the screen continues to be erratic even when restored as new then I would suggest taking it in for service:
