Apple Watch Does Not Make Ding Noise When Connecting Charger

I had he same problem and discovered that having night stand mode turned off disables this sound. I turned it back on and now it chimes with the full screen notification that it has begun charging.

Night stand mode is a completely optional feature that you can utilise or not. But, for some reason, it needs to be enabled for the charging chime and full screen notification to be heard/seen. Maybe they’ll address that in watchOS 4.1 public release.

Yes it would also be red if mute was enabled. It doesn’t matter if you plan on using nightstand mode or not. For some reason that needs to be enabled for the charging ding to work.

New sounds? I hear no charge chime since new watchOS4 release, and have no new sounds: in fact now that I think about it I'm not sure I've heard Any sounds since watchOS4.

Just to clarify, the illuminated "bell-crossed-out" button indicates mute is On?

Yup, turning on Nightstand mode fixes the "no charging chime" issue. Come on Apple, this has to be a bug, as I can't discern any reason for these to be linked.

I’m still not getting the charging chime. Did both restarts, turned mute on and off. Still no chime. I get all the other sounds, including the new sounds when unlocking the watch

This fixed mine. I’m fairl certain I have used this setting in the past. I’m confused as to why I must now use it?

Try restarting or, if that doesn't help, force restarting - your watch:

- Restart: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off; press and hold the side button until you see the logo.

- Force restart: press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for around 10 seconds, until you see the logo.
