I have a first gen iPad

I have had a first generation iPad that consistenly crashes and is slower than my 1985 macintosh computer. Your help sites seem to be telling me to junk it, which I can not believe. This might be a deal breaker Apple, I have been a customer for 30 years and this is the first time you have ever told me that there is no fix or solution other than junking it. $500 down the drain.
