Messages app freezes and becomes unresponsive when typing in new phone number

Already restored to "new iPhone" to try to fix

Basically when I open the messages app and go to new, and start typing a phone number, after the 3rd number mostly it freezes. The app becomes unresponsive and has to be forced closed. This happens everytime.
