cracked screen border, old ipad, home repair?

Ok,

So I just set up my old ipad 2 to give to my father in law who has never had one. The wife dropped it and there are several small cracks that are in the black border area, none on the screen wnere you actually touch the glass. Of course she was out shopping for a new case when this happened because my perfectly fine old one was "old".

It's not worth much, would have been a $60 recycle value. Still, it would be fine for an 85 yr old guy who we aren't sure if hes really even going to learn to use it.

Any suggestions as to film or an epoxy that I can put over the cracks, then place it in a case that covers the border so it doesn't get touched? I'm open to any suggestions, from scotch tape, duct tape, superglue, or a commercial film.

Thanks
