That kind of panic is often caused by a memory fault.

According to Apple's specifications, your model can use at most 8 GB of memory, but you've installed 16 GB. The results are unpredictable. I know that the aftermarket RAM vendor says that the configuration will work. If you accept that assurance, please ask the vendor for help with any problems you have. Otherwise, reinstall the original memory, or new memory that meets the official specifications.

Your MBP will accept 16 GB RAM provided that it is compatible. OWC and Crucial are the best sources for Mac compatible RAM.

Often RAM from some third party vendors, even with the correct specifications, will be problematic.

Run an Apple Hardware Test. It may offer a clue:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201257

Note that an error free AHT is not definitive.

What you might also try is download from Kelley computing Rember and run it overnight so that sufficient loops are executed:

If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation.

Ciao.

Of all the dangerous false advice that circulates on this site, the advice to use out-of-spec memory is about as bad as it gets.

I certainly agree with you and that is why I always recommend OWC and Crucial as the most reliable sources for Mac compatible RAM. This is important when a user may be installing additional RAM from let's say 4 GB to 8 GB in a MBP as might be the case for a 2009 MBP.

I certainly hope that you are not referring to installing larger capacity RAM modules than Apple initially recommends for their MBP's. You may not be aware that since 2007, many if not most MBPs, have been able to recognize more RAM than initially was called for by Apple. Aside from rare cases when a module has been faulty out of the box, I have heard of no examples of any issues with OWC and Crucial RAM.

I can personally speak from experience since I have two MBPs with 16 GB RAM installed that run flawlessly even though these MBPs are specified for 8 GB RAM as the maximum by Apple. In the case of this discussion, the model identifier 9, 1 MBP can accept 16 GB RAM, as long as it meets the Apple specifications which certainly would be with OWC or Crucial RAM. If the user has installed a different brand, then there potentially may be a problem, be we do not know that.
