Can't connect to internet through Airport Extreme G4

Hello, earlier this week, the internet connection became unstable both WAN and LAN connections. It would sometimes work for certain websites and not work at all for others. I just assumed there was an outage somewhere causing problems. The problem had continued for a few days so I investigated it more.

I am currently using a PC connected directly to the modem with no issues. I can reach any destination on the web with no problem. When I connect the AP, connection is spotty then drops intermittently.

We have Comcast internet only and a Motorola SB6121 modem connected DHCP to a Gen 4 Airport Extreme firmware 7.6.4. They have been working together fine for 2 years.

I have reset the AP to factory with the same result. Has anyone had any issues like this?

Hello

When this starts to happen, the first thing I always do is to manually setup the DNS Servers (in your AP) to OpenDNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.222.220. Intermittent delays can be cause by your ISP's DNS not working well. Also OpenDNS is much safer than using you ISP's DNS

OK, I changed those settings and so far, so good.

Since I know just enough about this stuff to be dangerous, would you mind explaining why I would not use Comcast DNS?
