Search on Safari doesn't work sometimes

The safari search engine doesn't work sometimes. When I search for say Apple, it does nothing but if I instead type apple.com, then it takes me to the apple website. I've had the same issue on my iMac running El Capitan.

This issue occurs on different networks.

I am guessing its a bug in Safari.


Safari version Version 9.0.1 (11601.2.7.2)

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)
