Help. Can't shut down iPod 2nd generation. Why does anyone make a product without a legitimate power switch?

Since I don't know you, I have to ask, do you know how to shut the iPod Classic down? (Press-and-hold the Play button.)

If you mean why doesn't the iPod have a simple on-off switch, then the most likely answer is:
- save money by not have two switches when you can have one switch do two things
- minimalist look
