iTunes will not sync with iPhone 6s

I am unable to sync my new iPhone 6s with my iTunes because it says my iTunes is not updated. My MacBook is from 2010 (Mac OS X Version 10.6.8), and I refuse to update to the newest operating system. Friends with the same model MacBook that have updated operating systems have seen poor results. I am using iTunes 11.4 which shows as the most recent update when I check for updates. Can I update to a new iTunes if I am not updating operating systems?

There should be a way to sync iTunes to my new phone. Please help!

I should not have to purchase a new computer or additional software to sync the two.

Hello eastock,
I understand your situation and wanting to sync your iPhone with your Mac. Let's see what options you have available for you.
No, you would not be able to update your version of iTunes without updating your version of OS X. In order to sync with iTunes, the system requirements for your iPhone 6s is to have at least OS X 10.8.5 or later and have iTunes 12.3 in order to sync with your computer. The latest version of iTunes which is 12.3.1 requires OS X 10.8.5 in order to install.
With that, your only option is to upgrade. Take a look at the links below for more details that pertain to the system requirements.
