There should be a sleep timer so that you can set your Apple TV to turn off in a preset period, regardless of what is playing.

I believe the OP is looking to automate the process. Like a sleep timer to turn off after you fall asleep while binge watching Netflix or iTunes Radio...

The inactivity period is good, but if you're watching a TV show that's part of a season from your iTunes library on a Mac, AppleTV will continue autoplaying shows in that season and prevent it from being "inactive". A setting to disable autoplay of content from iTunes would fix that problem or, like this suggestion, the ability to set an absolute sleep timer.
"Siri, go to sleep in 30 minutes"
