How to remove "Genius" from iTunes playlist

Title says it all really.

I don't use, nor ever plan to use, "Genius", therefore I want to remove all traces of it.

While I managed to turn it "off", it's name and icon (the little atomic symbol) is still lingering in my playlist sidebar.

How to I get rid of/hide it?

Any help would be great.

Thanks!

;D

Have you also tried turning off genius 'File > Library > Turn off genius'? I'm not sure what I am missing, simply disable it & it goes away.

You can also edit other preference to hide most of the Apple music features if you don't use them, see restrictions in the preferences to disable connect & Apple music.

I never activated Genius since it was introduced.

I'm not sure that matters if it is shown in your sidebar it is probably enabled. Occasionally an update enable features.

Try the 'turn it on then turn it back off' troubleshooting step? You can stop the process and it disappears from the sidebar (at least that is how it operates for me on multiple Macs).

I don't know why it shows for some users.

I don't know how you 'parsed all the preferences', there isn't a simple command that lists all possible settings as far as I know (I have looked multiple times over the years too), that would be too easy. Hidden defaults write commands are only found by scraping strings from Apps & other methods as far as I can see.

Onyx is really unlikely to help, sorry just trying to be realistic, the issue is with Apple & you must pressure Apple for a resolution - visit a store & ask for help, submit bug reports, anything else is probably pointless.

Thanks.

I never activated Genius since it was introduced.

I checked, and I confirm it is deactivated but the first Playlist item is still Genius.

I already parsed all preferences and options to set them the way I like (including Connect & Apple Music disabled), and found nothing to make Genius vanish: I just want it to completely disappear (except a menu item or a preference to activate it, of course).

I'll post a request (with very little hope of change), unless someone founds a solution (maybe in a future release of Onyx).

Have you turned off Genius from the Store dropdown menu in iTunes? Still showing?

Try dumping your preferences .plist. Shut down iTunes and in Finder, hold down the Option key and click on Go. Still holding down the key, select Library. Find and open the Preferences folder and look for the file com.apple.iTunes.plist and delete it. Restart iTunes. You will have to set your preferences again.

It cannot be removed from the playlist sidebar. Think of it as a banner ad you cannot hide; it's there to push purchases via the iTunes store, so it will always be there.

You realise this topic is about a year old?

I also don't think you are correct - I have no sign of Genius in my sidebar (iTunes 12), seems like you need to investigate your settings double check that it is disabled.

Genius should also be showing you content from your library, so I can't see why you think of it as an advert, that is unless you have signed up for Apple music.
