can't connect my macbook air (osx 10.10.5. yosemite) with android phones

can't connect my macbook air (osx 10.10.5. yosemite) with android phones.

the phone typically recognizes that it is connected to a computer, but osx 10.10.5. does not recognize the phone, neither on osx nor under windows (vm ware).

same phone has no problem with earlier versions (e.g. 10.7.4), which runs on my macbook pro.
