I am trying to create a photo book to print in iPhoto and when I have selected my photos and clicked on the share menu - there is no option for book - only twitter, email Facebook etc. is showing

There is no way to share a book like that.
What exactly are you trying to do? Print it yourself? Upload it to Apple to print? Something else?

Thanks for your reply - I am trying to create a photo book for printing by apple. According to their "how to" instructions under apple help - it says to select the photos to be printed and then click on Share and select "book". Maybe I am misunderstanding something so if you can advice that would be much appreciated.
You sure you're using iPhoto? See the Share button bottom right?
If it's Photos it is different.
I'm definitely using iphoto but may upgrade to photo tonight if I can't get this to work. When you say the share button is bottom right; I am clicking on the share button on the top menu bar where it then lists: Icloud, facebook, Twitter, Email, Desktop etc but not "book" as it says in the iphoto help
In iPhoto look at the bottom right of the Window -> four buttons: Info, Edit, Add to and Share...
