Q: My delete key won't work on my wireless keyboard for my Mac

I have a iMac OS X Yosemite, version 10.10 and Recently the delete key on my Apple wireless keyboard just stopped working. In order for me to delete something I have to highlight what I want deleted and write in something in its place. I'm not too familiar with the iMac whatsoever. I'm normally either on my new iPad Air 2 or my iPhone, so I really don't go on my  as much as I'd like to, especially now that my keyboard is acting up its becoming a hassle. I don't know how to troubleshoot  Mac. I didn't even set it up when I first got it so I don't know how to pair the keyboard to the Mac either but step by step Instructions I def can. i

is anybody else having a similiar issue with there wireless keyboard as well? Or does anybody know how to help me? i don't know what to do please help

thank you so much!

Have you tried restarting the Mac to see if the problem persists?

If so, then then you should check to see if the key is functioning.  It could be a keyboard hardware failure.  Follow the steps at the end of this article.

Of course if you have an old usb keyboard lying around you could plug it in and see if that functions normally too.

Please let us know the results.

You can try blasting the key with canned air with the thought maybe debris is stuck in the key preventing the key from making electrical contact.  You could also try a new keyboard.

It’s entirely possible that your keyboard has become defective. Try pairing the keyboard with your iPad Air 2 and see if the Delete key works. If it doesn’t then you know for sure it’s the keyboard. If it does work then the trouble points back to the iMac.
