Q: How do I replace the start up disk?

I've tried all the "tips and tricks" to try and free up storage and nothing is helping. I've moved all my pictures to an external hard drive and deleted everything I don't need and I'm still showing more than half of my storage being taken up by "Other". I'm at my wits end.

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.3), Macbook Pro

First understand what OTHER consists of:

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202867

Perhaps it should be named 'micellaneous'.  OTHER as such is not your problem.

Download from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper and Grand Perspective (both free) and open them. They will show all of your files and the respective sizes. Transfer to an external HDD or delete files you no longer want on your MBP.

Do not forget to empty trash. Only then is space allocated for new data.

    Ciao.
