I have a usb key that I used to install OS X so I need to reformat it for my everyday use.
I want it to go to both macs and PCs. I tried to reformat it to ExFAT or FAT but then windows PCs ask me to reformat it when I plug it.
The only solution I found is to use MBR instead of GUID. Is it normal ? Shouldn't GUID be recognized on Windows ?
yes, GUID is supported in Windows, but not in Windows XP 32 bit
and without the patch from MS for ExFat support windows XP does not support ExFat, not even if you have SP3 installed.
Although MS no longer supports XP they still have the patch hosted on their website.

Thanks for the reply, but I was using a PC with windows 10 ! And I have the same issue with FAT :/
format on your win 10 device, then use that format on Mac.
Otherwise there is nothing else you can do on the mac side with Disk Utility to work any magic.
in addition to what I said above do NOT use any 3rd party software on the Mac to manage the drive, especially if it was bundled with it.
This is a rather long time known bug in Disk Utility. If you format a drive as exFAT there, Windows computers can't always recognize the drive. Reformat the drive as exFAT on the Windows computer, and make sure not to choose a block size larger than 1024.
