apple tv setup no remote

Hi everybody.

I have a third generation apple tv with unknown firmware on it(i think older than 6.0)

I moved from my house,i need to setup up apple tv on a new tv and i have lost my remote control.

Now,I know that it's possible to setup apple tv by iphone placed on it but i think that my old firmware need to be upgraded to do so.

So the quetions are:

How do i update the firmware of apple tv if i cannot download via wifi since i don't have the remote for starting download?

Is there any kind of application that make an iphone or ipad or another remote into an apple tv remote without the need of configuration via apple remote control?

( for example apple remote app can.

do this,but previously u had to configure the iphone entering a code,that's impossible to me since i do not have any kind of input device)
