Wipe off HD
How to wipe off the HD and reinstall the OS on Mac Book Pro from 2009
- If you want the OSX version currently on the Mac and the Mac has Lion or later, boot to Recovery
OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
and then format the HD and download/install that OSX version via Recovery
- If you do not what version,
- Download the appropriate OSX installer. They should be listed in the Purchased section of the Mac App Store if you previously download them with the ID you are using.
- Make a bootable USB media using the following:
- Boot from that media
- Format the startup disk and install OSX from the bootable media
-If earlier then Lion boot from install DVD and format startup disk and install.
