Cannot update or use iPhoto since I deleted iMovie
I deleted i Movie as I was unable to download the new system update due to lack of space. Now I can not update or use iPhoto. No idea why.

Did you install a system update? Which macOS X version are you running? If you are now running MacOS X 10.11.1 El Capitan, you need to install iPhoto 9.6.1. No other version of iPhoto is compatible. Software update does no longer work for iPhoto, because apple is no longer selling iPhoto from the Mac App Store.
Try to update by reinstalling as described by Barney:
