Why does "my devices" keep disappearing and randomly coming back..

New to APPLE, switched from PC.... I was in photoshop, going to open files from a shared folder which was located under the my devices on the apple. and it's gone... Not the first time, but it randomly comes back whenever.. and disappears whenever..
