Optimize Storage, new photos still at full-res on iPhone

Hi,

I've the option Optimize Storage activated on iPhone and iPad, but all the new pics taken after the first optimization/upload stay at full resolution.

how can i download just the optimized versions? i noticed that my iPad downloads full-res new photos taken with the iPhone...

I don't understand how the Optimize Storage option works on new photos....
