Problem with SLOW Macbook Pro 8,2, 15" 2.2Ghz i7 8Gb late 2011.

I have a late 2011 MBP 8,2, 2.2Ghz i7 8Gb with a Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250GB drive with 224GB available. Running OS X 10.10.5 Yosemite.

In the Activity Monitor (All Processes) the kernel_task is using loads of CPU, the CPU load is at 85 to 95%. When I reset SMC the CPU load will be very low around 1% bumping up a bit (3-4%) when running a task. My MBP will run very fast for a while and then the kernel_task jumps to the top of Activity Monitor and CPU load goes to 85% or more and my MBP is nearly unusable in this state. Initially I had El Capitan 11.11.1 installed and had the same issues so I reverted to Yosemite.

I have reset PRAM and SMC numerous times yet the issue continues to come up with no apparent pattern, sometimes within 10 minutes and others I'll get several hours of a fast running mac. The latest thing I have done is create a bootable USB for Yosemite and reverted the OS. Since the Yosemite clean install I have installed Chrome, MS Office, updated Java for Safari, installed LastPass extension. I also installed termerature gauge to monitor fan speed and temps, currently 37° and 1998rpm and never above 47° & 2010.

Because of the measures I've taken this seems to me as hardware related, yet the fast speeds after SMC reset make me consider software as the issue. Could the SSD be having problems? How do I find out? How to I check the computer board and CPU for any problems?

Any solutions besides what I've already tried will be much appreciated.

Thanks BobTheFisherman,

I've been running in SAFE MODE since posting the speed problem and things are running quite fast. Here is the EtreCheck info from my computer.

I'll restart out of safe mode after this post and will send another EtreCheck is my speed slows down.
