Lost storage space on my mac

Today, I tried to install Windows 10 through Boot Camp on my MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.1 with 250 GB SSD. I had around 80 GB free and I gave 40 GB for Windows and 40 GB for the mac. I got to the step within Bootcamp where it was partitioning my SSD, and I went away for a few minutes. When I came back my Macbook had restarted. I opened Disk Utility and saw that under APPLE SSD SM256E Media it says 251 GB but under Macintosh HD only 209.79 GB capacity with 47.91 GB free. It appeared to have partitioned but it hasn't and therefore I have lost some storage space.User uploaded file

If it hasn't partitioned, where are the missing GBs? Why is the capacity only 209.79 GB? Please, help me. Thank you!

If you are in Local Recovery, it is running from your internal disk0. diskutil will not correct the space issue. Internet Recovery allows the internal disk to be available for such operations. There are some El Capitan vagaries, but the general resizeVolume/repairDisk sequence works.

Please backup OSX before you start installing Windows again. I suggest 64-100GB for Windows.

Please do not compare the two different representations of disk space in Disk Utility.

Can you post the output of

diskutil resizeVolume disk0s2 limits

Here is an example.

diskutil resizeVolume disk0s2 limits

For device disk0s2 Macintosh HD:

Current size: 741.7 GB (741695819776 Bytes)

Minimum size: 712.3 GB (712329113600 Bytes)

Maximum size: 741.7 GB (741695819776 Bytes)

I have already rebuilt the spotlight index, but I think I should do it again.

yes df -h still shows the smaller size.
