I am trying to sync my iphone to itunes, but it keeps saying an unknown error (-54) has occurred. How do i stop this??

So, for a few weeks I have been trying to sync my iPhone to iTunes but it keeps coming up with the error message "The iPhone cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-54)." How do I stop this from happening? It was working perfectly fine before!
