Can I register more than one Apple ID on my MacBook Pro?

I'm completely new to Mac, so please bear with me.

Is it possible to register both mine and my partner's Apple IDs on my MacBook Pro, in order to have each individual's iTunes, photo albums, apps, etc on the desktop?

I think my taste in music would drive her bananas!
