MacBook Air won't display correctly on Sanyo projector

I have an early 2015 11" MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite 10.10.5.

I cannot get to display correctly on a Sanyo projector. It would show up on the projection screen, but appeared to be in the wrong resolution (Quite large) and not all the screen would appear. Also, I tried playing videos and I could see them on the computer screen, but they would not display on the projector. I have the preferences "Display" resolution set at "Default for display" and I also tried changing resolutions. I have not been able to get to display on the projector.

Any thoughts on what the trouble could be?
