Q: Is 10:11 El Captan truly as problematic as many who have upgraded have complained about?

Before I proceed with upgrading are there any comment on the following concerns I have with the new OS?

Is 10:11 El Captan truly as problematic as many who have upgraded have complained about?

I have been fearful of upgrading to El Capitan because of all the extremely negative comments about it, loosing and misplacing mail and documents just to name a few I've read.

I could and would use Ethernet to down load the upgrade. I am at 20g down and 2 up. Is that better than wifi?

The only non Apple product I have is my HP Envy 5530 printer that is wifi only and has does not USB capability at all.

I am in the middle of some major Garage Band projects, (on going) are there issues with El Capitan and Garage Band.

Is there one clear source of reliable instructions on the process of download/upgrade/what happens after upgrade with network/mail settings.

There is not a Genius Bar near me, so if it doesn't work right the first time I would be in a very bad

I suppose in the final spot one might say why do you want to upgrade at all if things are working well on Yosemite,

There have been some speed improvements with

Thank you for any help you may offer

The middle of a major project is not, IMHO, a wise time to upgrade an OS you are currently happy with.

I'd wait in your position. And make sure I had good backups including at least one off-site copy of key documents/projects.

Personally, if I were in the situation of being in the middle of a major project,

I would let things be until the project is complete.  Although just as others have

stated there will likely be no issue with upgrading (I have 10.11.1 running on 4 Macs

without an issue), there is always some chance that something bad can happen

causing a bad upgrade.  If you have a means to quickly restore to a working state,

which you should be doing anyway, then if something should crop up, it should be

    straightforward to restore.

Something I had mentioned in other threads, people will be quick to complain about problems

and vocalize them.  Those without problems, rarely if ever voice praise, they just continue on with

    their lives.  Just human nature!!!

    Hi jojo,

I am running 10.11.1 on a MB 7.1 (C2D 2.4 GHZ / 8GB) It is running well except for some spontaneous reboot after opening the screen.

I am investigating some issues in the logs. This machine came from a clean install of mavericks, updated to Yosemite, and from that to

10.11 and 10.11.1. It ran fine all the time expect from a battery drain issue solved in 10.10.5

Mainly it runs flawless mostly for me. If you want to run te newest MSOffice, then there are problems related tot El Capitan.

As far as I can tell these are related to the new SIP feature that improves security of OSX a lot.

What I see is that mainly the newest hardware has problems, and not the older types. If you run in to problems, try running

a combo-update, which is complete, instead of partial.

What I always do before updating =

Clearing caches (boot with shift, or use something like ccleaner-mac / or dr-cleaner).

Repair filesystem permissions, there can always be something.

Linc, I took your advise and replaced the 2g stick w/ another 8, total 16g ram.

Then I upgraded to 10.11.1, this I did just this afternoon. All apps work as described and I attribute much of my success here to your advice about the ram. In fact I took the spec page you linked to me, printed it out and took it to the local Apple Authorized store (just a seller, not a REAL APPLE store) and those guys raved about the knowledge you offered to me and accommodated me with a matched 8g stick.

so far so GOOD, thanks, as always this is the place to get the info when one does not live in the city of Apple Retail Stores and Genius Bars.
