I have an iPhone 4 previously owned by my son - how do I reset the phone so that I can enter my apple ID and password and thus purchase apps etc.

Give this link to your son. He needs to do the steps in the order given

and slowly - letting one step complete before attempting the next.

Prepare your device to sell or give away

When completed, you should be able to set the iPhone up with your

AppleID and passcode.

Unfortunately the phone is now "locked" and even though I have his user name and password, I cannot get beyond that.... have applied for email to enable me to move beyond this point and my son has received those (at least 3) but when he forwards it to me there is no text showing in the body of the email, so I cannot see the instructions to follow..... yikes.... I am beginning to think that I will just trot down to the store and buy a replacement phone....
