appointments disappearing indiscriminately

...since I updated to El Capitan.

On and off. First time everything disappeared. Then downloaded appointments from iCloud. Then OK for a couple of days. Tried to add appointments to my calendar today-- they disappeared as did a couple of my other appointments for the week. Weirdness!
